housing group wins charity shop challenge 28.07.11

Bradford-based housing group, Incommunities, raised £8,503.03 for Cancer Research UK and won a local charity challenge.

They were competing against three other organisations in the Be Involved Be Boutique day (28th July); Approach PR, NatWest and Bradford Chamber of Commerce to raise as much money as possible.

They turned Cancer Research UK’s shop on Ivegate into a bargain-hunters delight with the help of thousands of donations made by colleagues. Shoppers were serenaded by Elvis Presley tribute act, Mark Memphis.

There were also prize draws in the shop with some top prizes up for grabs including a brand new LCD TV and iPod Touch player.

Incommunities partners, contractors and suppliers made donations totalling £2,980 towards the grand total.

Over £3,000 was also raised with an online auction amongst staff of some of the donated gifts and a ‘dress down’ day.

Geraldine Howley, Incommunities Group Chief Executive said: “Everyone has pulled out all the stops to raise this fantastic sum.

“The shop was a hive of activity as some of our staff swapped the office to serve hundreds of customers and help boost our fundraising challenge. On behalf of the organisation I would to thank our partners who have been particularly generous.

“Cancer Research UK relies on the generosity of local people and businesses and everyone at Incommunities is proud to support their life saving work. I would urge Bradfordians to keep donating and supporting local charities.”

Following the recent consultation, we have introduced the following changes;
  • households including a pregnancy will be allowed to bid for properties to reflect their future needs
  • long term foster carers will be allowed to bid for properties to reflect their future needs
  • Housing Association tenants who are eligible for one bedroomed properties and are under-occupying flats & maisonettes suitable for children in high demand areas or houses by one or more bedrooms. (Properties vacated through this initiative will be allocated to customers in Band A and Band B)
  • a new overcrowding policy has been introduced and is now available as an appendix to the allocations policy
  • customers housed via the private sector bond scheme will not be able to bid for a property on homes for the first 10 months of their tenancy
